Who am I?

Maria Jose is a theater community organizer focusing on the intersections of race, gender, class, and desire. Born and raised in Liberia, Costa Rica, Maria Jose completed her BA in Theater and Latin American Studies at Earlham College and currently working on her MA in Latin American Studies at the University of New Mexico. She is also the Communications Organizer for El CENTRO de Igualdad y Derechos, an immigrant and low-wage organization in NM. Her work focuses on regional community planning, sociology of economic development, conflict resolution and solidarity. For her art work, she uses performance art for education purposes. She also facilitates theater workshops based on ensemble building exercises to build trust among groups and communities.
